Showreel Evaluation

I am really proud of my show-reel and have put a huge amount of effort into making it look good & go well with the soundtrack.
It was tricky to pick the right clips from each of my films and fit them with the music. I chose an upbeat music track because it fitted well with some of the shots I included in the final edit.

I thought it would be nice to include some footage that I haven't produce yet & still in the post production stage. This included a small cameo of Nicolas Cage turning on the Bath Christmas Lights last November. The beginning of my show-reel including most of my opening titles & continued to jump between different films.
Surprisingly, the music went really well with my music video that I produced in Year One, mostly because it is by the same artist & it has a similar pace & beat.

The length was a big issue for me as I wanted to show as much good content as I possibly could, but without it dragging & boring. Even though the final edit is just under 3 minutes longs, I feel that it could be a lot shorter in length.
I have had a plethora of issues when it came to building my DVD to put my show reel on, along with other films I have produced. I have had to re-export my movies again to PAL, and then convert them to the right size for SD. This has been a big hindrance when publishing my final show reel DVD and waiting for films to render & export has watered down the time taken to complete my final DVD.

I have also decide to include another project I have produced outside of college on my show reel DVD. I think that this shows that it is not just a college based DVD, but a collection of film projects.

I have had great feedback from my final show reel. When it came to showing it at an interview, they were a bit concerned that it was too long & dragged on. I think looking back, I could have made it a bit a little bit shorter, to make it seem I was giving the audience just a taste of my films.

It actually took a few edits to make it look, feel & sound good. More planning is something that I need to work on in the future and getting a wider range of feedback is another thing that I appreciate & widely acknowledge.

As this is a film made for educational purposes, I did not need to look into license fees for the music.

To conclude, when it comes to making another showreel & more show reels further down the line, I can draw upon this first experience of producing a film showing a piece or many piece of my own work.

I can also draw upon the experience I had producing a DVD in DVD Studio Pro. I now know how to build & produce a DVD with menus, graphics, sub menus etc
Below, you can look at my Show reel & see what you think. I will appreciate any feedback, good or bad, and take it onboard.
